A STUDY OF POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED BY ERIN GRUWELL IN FREEDOM WRITERS MOVIE

This study aims to identify and describe the four politeness strategies factors which are proposed by Penelope Brown Stephen C. Levinson as seen in an American movie entitled Freedom Writers. It is qualitative research since focus on analyzing utterances of main character. The data taken from script. There two questions discussed this study: (1) what used Erin Gruwell Writers movie? And (2) influencing strategies? findings show that applied strategies, bald-on record, off-record, negative positive politeness. However, dominant strategy politeness, where wants get close satisfy hearer’s face. Related finding shows there affect choosing strategies: payoffs sociological variables.
